 Popped Water Lily Seeds, also known as Makhana, have been consumed in India for centuries and come from a place of natural and spiritual goodness. Not to be confused with lotus seeds, water lily seeds, also commonly called fox nuts, derive from the euryale ferox plant that grows in Bihar, India. Since the seeds cannot be eaten raw, they are roasted soon after harvest, transforming the seeds into a wholesome, crunchy puffed snack!

Water Lily seeds are one of the most prescribed seeds in Ayurveda because of their neutral character, making them beneficial for all body types. We’re not the only ones who love makhana. According to Whole Foods, popped water lily seeds are one of this year’s most innovative snacks, earning a spot on the top 10 food trends list for 2019. This Ayurvedic superfood is packed with plant-based protein, antioxidants and micronutrients. The seeds also contain kaempferol, a flavonoid that has both anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties. Not only is makhana grain free, corn free, and gluten free, but it has 50% more protein than popcorn and is low in calories and fat. It’s simply just one whole popped seed, the ideal snack.
